Your donation supports:

  • Bonetti-Bell & Starn Workshops

These creative writing workshops are offered at no charge, and are collaborations with community centers, local nonprofits, and high schools. Secondary school students have access to free, quality education on personal expression.

  • Bonetti-Bell Fellows

Bonetti-Bell Fellows are graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley. These scholars are creative writing teachers who are assigned to Bonetti-Bell Workshop sites around the Bay Area and teach the students about artistic power.

  • Starn Fellows

Starn Fellows are graduate students at St. Mary’s College of California. These scholars are of an inaugural cohort of creative writing teachers at St. Mary’s—inspired by the success of our Simpson Fellowship.

  • Simpsonistas

Our annual anthology includes distinguished authors like Joyce Carol Prize winners alongside first-time authors from Simpson & Starn Workshops, who are well on their way to becoming distinguished themselves.

  • Jack Hazard Fellowships

This grant provides much-needed funding for writers who serve as high school teachers, so that they can have a summer dedicated to their craft. In 2023, we are funding fourteen distinguished writers from every corner of the United States.

  • Joyce Carol Oates Prize Recipient in Residence at Cal

Prize Recipients have unforgettable resonance as they teach and engage with university and high school students as well as the public-at-large during their seven to ten day residency.
