This year, nine NewLit workshops are taking place, delivering arts education to more than one-hundred young people. In 2024, we’re offering five Bonetti-Bell Workshops taught by Bonetti-Bell Fellows from the UC Berkeley English Department. The workshops are offered by NewLit at no charge at Contra Costa Juvenile Hall, Girls Inc. Alameda County (2), Albany High School, and Northgate High School. Congratulations to this year’s distinguished Bonetti-Bell Fellows: Uttara Chaudhuri, Ariel Baker-Gibbs, Andy King, Eric Muscosky, and Camille Santana Considine. In collaboration with NewLit, the Bonetti-Bell Workshops and Fellowships are sustained by James Bell and family.

We will also have three Iris Starn Fellows —distinguished teachers and writers who are MFA candidates in creative writing at Saint Mary’s College of California. These esteemed writers will be teaching creative writing workshops, free of charge, at Emery High, the public high school in Emeryville, California; Concord High School, and Hayward High School.
