Jack Hazard Fellowships

We are pleased to announce that we received impressive applications for our inaugural Jack Hazard Fellowships for Creative Writers Teaching High School. Applicants come from throughout the state of California, from public schools, independent schools, Catholic schools, and charter schools. We expect to announce the names of Fellows this Spring. This year we restricted applications to California-based writers who are teachers; next year, we will open up nationally.

2021 Joyce Carol Prize Winner Visiting in March

Danielle Evans, 2021 JCO Prize Winner, will be in residence in the Bay Area the week of March 7th. She will be visiting classes at Cal and elsewhere, and making at least one public speaking appearance in the Fife Room, Wheeler Hall, on the Cal campus, on Wednesday evening, March 9th. More details will be forthcoming. In the meantime, we are all enchanted by the prospect of her incandescent presence. The Berkeley motto is Fiat Lux. Danielle will help make that happen.

2022 Joyce Carol Oates Prize

The JCO Prize jury is busy considering the inspiring, impressive authors on the Longlist. The Finalists for the 2022 Prize, the shortlist, will be announced in early March. The board of the NLP expects to name the recipient of the Prize in April.
